Valves

When you need to automate a residential or commercial irrigation system, Toro’s solenoid valves make it easy. Program to water one zone at a time, and the valves will open and close to match.

Features

  • AC and DC solenoid valves
  • Available in different sizes and pressure ranges
  • Manual or electric operation

How does a valve work?

When you need to automatically control water flow, Toro solenoid valves offer legendary reliability, long service life and a compact design. Valves act like doors, letting water flow into your irrigation system. Inside is an electric coil (the solenoid) with a movable centre (the plunger). When an electric current passes through the coil, it creates a magnetic field that prompts the plunger to open the valve.

Benefits

Which valve size do you need?

It depends on the area you’re irrigating. For veggie gardens and smaller landscapes, the mini barb is a great choice. It’s compact and costs less, but has limited flow.

For a bigger system, 25mm solenoids give you full flow to run things like rotors and pop-ups.

Benefits

What’s the difference between AC and DC?

AC solenoids are connected to electricity, whereas DC solenoids are battery powered.

So which one is better for you?

DC solenoids are often preferred as they are not subject to original peak currents, which may cause overheating and coil harm with frequent cycling or accidental spool seizure.

However, where rapid response is needed or where relay-type electrical controls are used, AC solenoids are preferred.

Coils

Solenoids are the most important components used in solenoid valves to control the flow of liquids and gases.

Solenoids are electromechanical devices that convert AC or DC electrical energy into linear motion. They usually consist of a helical coil wound concentrically around a movable cylinder, called the armature, made from a ferromagnetic material such as iron or steel.

Most solenoid valves have a replaceable coil and can be used with coils with different voltages.
